Install Mahara

Postby jaigupta » Tue Sep 29, 2009 3:31 pm

Mahara is an open source e-portfolio system, it also features a weblog, resume builder and social networking system, connecting users and creating online learner communities. It can also be integrated with Moodle which allows true single-signon between both systems - no password sharing required, and users' profile information is ported across.

Step 1: Go to your Control Panel and click on Advanced Options > Mahara > Activate Mahara

This will activate Mahra on your site. For example if your site URL is moodle.example.com then mahara will be present at moodle.example.com/mahara/

Step 2: Go to mahara e.g. yoursite.com/mahara/ and click on I agree

This will start the installation and all components of Mahara will be installed one by one automatically. This might take 1-2 minutes.

Step 3: Click continue, and you should now be at a login screen. Log into the system with user "admin", password "mahara".

Step 4 (Optional): Moodle/Mahara Integration
The integration between Moodle and Mahara has been affectionately named "Mahoodle". It allows true single-signon between both systems - no password sharing required, and users' profile information is ported across.

The best instructions for setting up the integration can be found in this pdf by Donal McMullan.

Do you remember any kind of error or warning message when the upgrade failed the first time or do you remember which module failed to install?

Well, we have fixed your Mahara installation. You can login with username admin and password mahara.

Kath, we have fixed your Mahara installation. You can login with username admin and password mahara.

It would be interesting to know the point where installation is failing or did you tried to refresh the page?

Jai,

The installation didn't complete due to Firefox error and the following error is displayed:
Mahara: Site unavailable
A nonrecoverable error occured. This probably means you have encountered a bug in the system

Thanks,

Re: Install Mahara - installation failed

Postby arphia84 » Wed Sep 30, 2009 9:30 pm

Activated Mahara under the advanced options in the control panel - OK

Agree to GNU GPL - OK

Transfer to page listing components/modules to be installed/upgraded - first module (core) failed to install/upgrade

===

When I try to go to /mahara on my site, I get the following error message:

Mahara: Site unavailable
A nonrecoverable error occured. This probably means you have encountered a bug in the system

Deactivating and reactivating Mahara in the control panel doesn't allow me to try the installation process over.

If you could resolve the errors so that I can check out Mahara, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

As many of you are having problem installing Mahara database we have decided to install it our-self. For new users Mahara will be pre-installed like Moodle. For existing users we are in process of installing Mahara for everyone, this process might take few hours. I will update when we complete this process.

In case you have problem with Mahara installation, please contact help desk.

config.php

Postby geoffboulton » Thu Oct 01, 2009 3:12 am

I'm trying to connect Moodle to Mahara and the instructions say I need the exact www root from the Moodle config.php file. I've searched the entire site using Filezilla but can't find the file.

Where can I get this information? What do I use for the www root?

Thanks and apologies in advance for being so stupid as I'm sure this is probably a dumb question ;-)

I'm having the same problem as Geoff and others regarding the exact root of the config.php file... Any help would be appreciated. My screenshot looks just like Carlos's from earlier today.

After I entered admin and mahara as the password/username i was asked to enter a new password before it would proceed. I hope i didn't screw things up for others. Then i got the following message:

Mahara: Site unavailable
A nonrecoverable error occured. This probably means you have encountered a bug in the system

The site is loading so very slow for me. it is taking forever to load pages.

redubicua, geoffboulton,

WWW root is nothing but URL of your home page of Moodle.
You can also view it at Site Administration > Notifications > Moodle Registration

It will be something like http://moodle.example.com

Hiya,

Well, I thought that the www root would just be the site URL but I've tried

http://www.geoffsenglish.co.cc

http://www.geoffsenglish.co.cc/moodledata/

(with and without the http protocol identifier at the beginning and I still get the same thing as shown on the screenshot by redubicua

Many thanks
